Gregory Abowd

A bold and innovative researcher, Dean Abowd is internationally renowned for pioneering contributions in human-computer interaction, or HCI, and groundbreaking research in ubiquitous computing. His contributions have been recognized through numerous awards, including a fellowship at the Association for Computing Machinery and induction into the ACM CHI Academy, the most prestigious honor for researchers in HCI. He has been a dynamic force behind innovations in autism and technology. In 2008 he founded the non-profit Atlanta Autism Consortium and received the ACM Eugene Lawler Humanitarian Award for his work in autism and technology in 2009. During his 26 years at Georgia Institute of Technology, he served as Regents’ Professor and held the J.Z. Liang Chair in the School of Interactive Computing, where he spearheaded innovative projects like Classroom 2000 and the Aware Home.
