Vivek Kanpa
'23, data science and biology major
Ever at the intersection of biology and Big Data, Vivek strives to take the troves of data produced by the genomic revolution and put them into practice to advance humanity. A true prodigy, he engineered a low-cost water treatment filter and was published in Brain Science while in his teens. During his Northeastern co-op at Takeda Global Biologics, he began work with Associate Professor Javier Apfeld on C. elegans as part of the Worm Immortality Team.” He helped re-engineer the team’s Pharedox software processing and created an image-processing and data-routing application. Vivek’s lofty aspirations include developing computational tools and machine learning models to enable precision medicine. He begins this journey toward a PhD in 2024 in Ireland as part of the Mitchell Scholarship. A leader in the classroom and among his peers, Kanpa has received the PEAK Ascent and TrailBlazer Awards, and he serves as both a Husky Ambassador and resident assistant.
