The Global Safety and Security Assessment Committee (GSSAC) is charged with providing advice, guidance, and recommendations to the Provost, Chancellor, and Senior Vice Presidents in response to circumstances that present a safety concern where students are, or will be, participating in a University-approved activity. GSSAC also proactively makes recommendations in response to changing world conditions regarding programs still in the planning stages.
GSSAC reviews Exception Petitions to travel to “high-risk” destinations and makes recommendations to the Provost and/or Chancellor’s Office regarding the proposed travel.

The committee is composed of members from across the campus, including Dr. Malcolm Hill (Disciplinary Faculty), Dr. Lori Gardinier (Disciplinary Faculty), Maura Iversen (Disciplinary Faculty), Lisa Campagnoni (Co-op Faculty), Chief Michael Davis (Associate VP, Public Safety), Madeleine Estabrook (Sr. Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs), Lisa Sinclair (VP & Deputy General Counsel), Barbara Smith (Sr. Counsel, Compliance – Office of General Counsel), Sonya Ross (Director, Risk Services), Dr. Marina Markot (Director, Global Experience Office), Deb Franko (Sr. Vice Provost, Academic Affairs), Elizabeth Cheron (Assistant VP of Enrollment Management and Dean of Admissions), and Thomas Sheahan (Sr Vice Provost, Curriculum& Programs).
