NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Retirement of Valentina Nestor

Our colleague and friend, Valentina Nestor, has retired from Northeastern as of July 11. Val joined Northeastern 24 years ago and has had a remarkable influence on Northeastern ever since.

Val began her career at Northeastern working as a business analyst on the PeopleSoft implementation.  From there she moved on to ITS and had her initial foray into data governance concepts.  She joined what is now UDS in 2010 and created Northeastern’s data governance program from the ground up, creating a sustainable and flexible framework and operating model for us to manage, enhance, and strengthen over time.  The program she created, piece by piece, is an accepted and valued part of Northeastern’s infrastructure and is one of the best in higher education today.

Val has provided her expertise through many changes at Northeastern, and has been a guiding presence for the creation of new and important policies such as Data Classification and Data Access.

Val’s ability to reach across the university and form relationships has been a key to her success.  She is a problem-solver, an avid learner, and a loyal colleague. She will apply these skills and characteristics to life after Northeastern, aiming to lead a life balanced among professional pursuits, travel, being a grandmother, and lifelong learning.  Val will continue to consult with UDS part-time after she leaves and assist with the transition to her successor.

Please join me in wishing Val all the best as she begins the next phase of her life.
