Honoring Recent Award Recipients: October 2025

Northeastern faculty continue to earn prestigious honors for their influential work across diverse fields. We’re excited to announce our newest group of award-winning Northeastern University scholars and describe their accolades.

Dennis Staroselsky, Assistant Teaching Professor of Theatre at the College of Arts, Media and Design, has won the 2025 Waco Independent Film Festival Best United States Short award for his film “What It’s Like to Be Okay.” Professor Staroselsky is an actor, writer, and producer who has appeared in a number of high-profile films and television productions throughout his career. His most personal project yet, “What It’s Like to Be Okay” stars Staroselsky, who also wrote and directed, in the lead role as an actor struggling to balance making it in Hollywood with being a father.

Dr. Jared Auclair, Dean of the College of Professional Studies, has been selected for the MassBioEd’s Public Advocate award to be bestowed at 2025 Champions for Biotechnology Education Awards Gala. The Gala is held yearly to recognize individuals committed to fostering science literacy and advancing life sciences education in Massachusetts. Outside of his duties as dean, Dr. Auclair also serves as a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology with research emphasis on biopharmaceutical development and analysis. Dean Auclair has held various leadership positions during his long career with Northeastern including Vice Provost of Research Economic Development and Director of Bioinnovation.


Dr. Timothy J. Rupert, Professor and Golemme Administrative Chair in the Accounting group in the D’Amore-McKim School of Business, has been honored with the Outstanding Accounting Educator Award from the American Accounting Association. The award, consisting of a citation and $5,000 prize, is sponsored by the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) US Group and is presented to innovative educators who have contributed significantly to accounting education. Professor Rupert’s research explores the decision-making processes of taxpayers and the impact of changes in the tax system on fairness perceptions. Professor Rupert additionally serves on multiple editorial boards in the accounting field.
Dr. Mary Steffel, Associate Professor of Marketing and Joseph G. Riesman Research Professor in the D’Amore-McKim School of Business, has been honored with the Responsible Research in Marketing award from the American Marketing Association. The award is bestowed annually and recognizes outstanding research in the marketing field that can be applied to benefit society. Professor Steffel’s work explores consumer judgment and decision making and is published in a number of leading journals in marketing, management, and psychology. Additionally, Professor Steffel has served on the White House Social and Behavioral Sciences Team and has written for various media outlets.


Dr. Mark Huselid, Distinguished Professor and Director of the Center for Workforce Analytics in the D’Amore-McKim School of Business, has won the Dave Ulrich Impact Award from The Human Resources Division. The award recognizes excellence in the application of theory and research in HR practices and public policy across the nation. Professor Huselid’s research focuses primarily on the linkages between HR management systems, corporate strategy, workforce differentiation, and firm performance. Huselid also operates a consulting program and serves on the editorial board for multiple journals.
Dr. Dani Snyder-Young, Associate Professor of Theatre in the College of Arts, Media and Design, has been voted president-elect of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) for a two-year term. ATHE serves as a center for promoting the study and practice of theatre and performance in higher education. Professor Snyder-Young’s research focuses primarily on applied theatre, activist performance, and the ways in which performance impacts audiences and their participants. In addition to being president-elect of ATHE, Snyder-Young also leads the Data Theatre Collaborative, a program where community stakeholders collaborate with theatre artists to explore pressing local issues.


Dr. Yiannis Levendis, Distinguished Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in the College of Engineering, has won the Robert G. Quinn Award from the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). The award recognizes outstanding contributions to excellence in experimentation and laboratory instruction and includes a $5,000 honorarium prize. Professor Levendis’s research topics of interest include the gasification and combustion of fuels, the synthesis and analysis of combustion byproducts, pollution control, fire suppression, and engine design. Levendis is currently entering his 37th year with Northeastern University.

Two distinguished faculty members have been selected for induction as 2025 Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing . “The FAAN (Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing) credential is a prestigious recognition of one’s accomplishments and signifies the power of nursing to transform health and enact positive outcomes,” said Academy President, Linda Scott.
Dr. Yiyuan Sun, Associate Chair and Clinical Professor of Nursing in the Bouvé College of Health Sciences, is an accomplished educator in the nursing field. Professor Sun specializes in cancer prevention, early detection, instrument development, and nursing education. Additionally, Professor Sun’s research explores symptom management and diabetes care.


Dr. Valeria A. Ramdin, Director of Global Health Nursing and Associate Clinical Professor of Nursing in the Bouvé College of Health Sciences, has over 35 years of experience in healthcare. Professor Ramdin specializes in interdisciplinary research exploring vitamin D and the link with the socioecology of health, self-care, and healthy aging.
