Carla Brodley

Dean of Inclusive Computing

Biography

Carla E. Brodley is the dean of inclusive computing at Northeastern, the founding executive director of the Center for Inclusive Computing, and a professor in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences. Brodley served as the dean of Khoury College of Computer Sciences from 2014 to 2021. Prior to joining Northeastern, she was a professor in the Department of Computer Science and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at Tufts University from 2004 to 2014.  

In her career, Brodley has earned prestigious distinctions as a fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery, the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Her machine learning research has powered advances in computer science, remote sensing, neuroscience, digital libraries, astrophysics, computational biology, predictive medicine, and more. Her current research focuses on computer science education and methods for broadening participation in computing. In 2022, she received the ACM Francis E. Allen Award for Outstanding Mentoring. She is currently vice chair of the board of trustees of the Jackson Laboratory and serves as a member of the board of directors of the Computing Research Association and the Mass Technology Leadership Council, and as a member of the International Advisory Board of the Quad Fellowships.
